Best Wedding Credit Card?
I am genuinely surprised at how many times I see this question pop up in wedding groups I’m in as well as on TikTok (or even brides asking me directly).
“What is the best credit card to get for your wedding?”
I think the reason it’s a tough question is because it’s such a personal one. You need to know what you are prioritizing in a credit card for there to be a good answer. If you’re looking to shop Amazon, then you should probably look into their credit card to get points on shopping.
If you’re like me, and you’re looking for travel, then you need to look closely at all those travel cards on the market.
I don’t ever recommend products or vendors I don’t like. My preferred vendor list is full of free advertising for folks I’ve worked with or met along the way whose work I thoroughly enjoy. I feel the same way about credit cards. I can’t in good conscience refer you to a credit card I don’t use or like. I don’t have many cards I can recommend but here are the ones I can.
Marriott Bonvoy: I am a Marriott girl all the way. My dad used to bring us along on work trips growing up and he would collect points on his Marriott rewards card. When it came time for our wedding, my husband and I opted for a Marriott Hotel for our guests to stay at and for our morning after brunch! It was a no-brainer, once we had that decided, that we would have to get our own rewards card and start saving up for our wedding festivities! Since starting it a year before our wedding, we earned so many points for things like booking travel and hotels (not even Marriott!) for our honeymoon, grocery shopping, gas, and all of my own travel for work that we were able to get our hotel room for our wedding night free! Marriott works with sister hotels and United Airlines as well so that you can book anywhere and still get a deal. They even have a referral program so that you can invite your family and friends to apply for a credit card and receive free nights in return for their enrollment. If you’re looking to start saving for some extra honeymoon nights (I am still not over the Niagara Falls Spa that my husband and I went to for our minimoon), you can also earn points with my friends and family referral code to get you started. Earn 3 Free Night Awards with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card or 30,000 Bonus Points with the Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card. Both earn bonus points for purchases made on travel or entertainment! Offer is subject to credit approval. Learn More. https://www.referyourchasecard.com/252g/14O0ALZG4E
United Airlines Card: Hand-in-hand with Marriott Bonvoy (they’re partnered) if you rather receive upgrades and freebies from your airline rather than your hotel, United Airlines has great travel rewards. I don’t have their card, but my husband does and we use it every time we fly and don’t need a hotel included. I, personally, don’t love flying so I picked my credit card for “ground points” (aka a hotel) but my husband is often booking his flights for work and earns bonus miles that way!
Citi ThankYou Preferred: If you want something broader than an Amazon card and something that needs a lower credit score, Citi ThankYou Preferred was my starter card as a college student. I used it for all my Amazon purchased back then and earned enough rewards that many of my Amazon purchases were free. They also offer quarterly incentives. I no longer have the card, but I definitely recommend.
While I have personal experience with these cards and can therefore recommend them, they aren’t the only cards on the market. Truthfully, I used nerdwallet to compare cards before finally picking what we would use for our wedding and I highly suggest you do the same!
