Tips for Wedding Dances

A question I hear a lot is “what should myself and my [fiancé/fiancée/parent] dance to at the wedding?” First and foremost, my advice is that you and your loved one should use a song that holds a special meaning to you. Perhaps it’s the first song you danced to, perhaps it is a song that played during a proposal, perhaps it’s the song your parent danced to with your grandparent—the list of moments to pick from is never ending!

My husband and I met through ballroom dance, so capturing the feeling of your relationship in the art of song and dance is definitely a process we understand. The pressure is there to find that “perfect” song.

But I’m here to tell you, the perfect song is the one you pick together. We picked a song for our first dance that neither of us was familiar with—though we’d danced to work by the artist together before—because we wanted a specific style of dance. I think we thought, at the time, something would be missing. It wasn’t. The first time we danced it through together, we both wound up with tears in our eyes.

I’ve spent a portion of my website (the secret portion!!!!) compiling a list of tips, linking playlists, and giving dance jumping off points—for those of us learning at home.
